GasBuddyToGo.com Update!! (Part 2)
-The last improvement is we have removed the thank you page. So if you post a price from your favorites you will automatically be taken back to your list so you can post another price and the same goes for the non favorites price input page. This will decrease the amount of bandwidth required to post prices from the mobile site.

GasBuddyToGo.com Update!!
We are please to let you know that we have updated the GasBuddy mobile site gasbuddytogo.com.
-You can now post mid-grade and premium prices from the mobile site as well as regular and diesel.
-Also the favorite stations listing has been updated to match your lists on the live site. This means that prices that are matched to the master station list on your local site now match on the mobile site and prices should map properly as well.
-Another improvement is you can now remain logged on and don't have to log in all the time. The next time you log in to the mobile site you should get a message asking you to book mark that page. If you do you should not have to log in again.

Map Gas Prices Update!
We have recently update the map gas prices page on Gasbuddy. We have implemented some new and exciting changes that the members have been asking for. We would like to thank everybody for all the great suggestions.
Some of the changes are:
-View multiple fuel types on the map instead of just regular.
-There is a time limit drop down allowing you to select how old prices are that you want to see.
-You are able to see all stations on the map including stations that don't have a current price.
When Clicking on a station you can
-You are now able to post/update prices for all fuel grades from the map as well as see station features and station photos where available.
-You can also add stations to your favorite station list directly from the map and edit the station info in the master station list by clicking an edit link.

New Program - GasBuddy Direct (Part 2)
There is no cost or fee for stations to access the GasBuddy Direct program. It is simply a way for stores to get their prices on the site more easily on regular basis. Many stations current report prices to Gasbuddy manually. Hopefully now the information will be more timely and reliable.
We do not want to undervalue member participation in reporting gas prices and we can not be any more appreciative and amazed at the collective efforts of everyone. The GasBuddy Direct program is not meant to compete with member price reports, it is simply a way for station owners and operators to report prices similar to how they always have, only it is now easier. In a sense what we have done is created an area that gives station owners and operators their own Favorite Stations List to post prices. The more prices in the system the more useful and reliable the gas price information becomes.

New Program - GasBuddy Direct
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce everyone to a new program that we have for stations owners and operators to more easily submit prices to Gasbuddy.
We are in the midst of testing it and we have coined the program as GasBuddy Direct. Some stations and chains will be feeding prices directly from corporate headquarters on GasBuddy sites. As the GasBuddy websites have become more popular, stations are noticing that the GasBuddy sites are having an impact on their sales. They need their prices showing on GasBuddy or it hurts their sales. I think this is the exact kind of impact we need to have on the market. It has been said that the GasBuddy sites can be perceived as a way to boycott those stations with the highest prices which will force them to lower their prices, and we like to think that this beginning to become a reality.
The prices posted under GasBuddy Direct do not count for points and those stations etc are not eligible for the contests etc.

Server stuff.
We are making some changes to the servers over the next 72 hours. Our servers are being physically moved to a new datacenter. This should not result in significant downtime however both tonight after 12am EST and tomorrow after 12am EST there may be periods where certain website functions such as the maps, charts or wireless sites are not available. With any luck there will be no issues. This is being done since our hosting company is moving to a new building.
Also we have a new Database server coming on line in the next few days or so. Hopefully there will be a further improvement in website performance and reliability thanks to this upgrade.

Happy Holidays 2007 From GasBuddy!
Well, another year has passed by very quickly. We managed to finally make some major in-roads to the incorporation of a master station list. This will help bring some improved consistency to the price reports, help remove duplicates and make it easier to report prices.
Everyone we talk to, we tell them how amazing it is to see the support that exists in every city for GasBuddy. To find people volunteering everywhere that are willing to contribute a few minutes each day in an effort (mostly) to help other people save money on gas is truly an amazing thing. Especially at this time of year it is nice to think of the GasBuddy family nationwide across the US and Canada being strong and growing. We thank you all for your efforts. We wish you and your families a safe and happy holidays and may 2008 bring you everything that you wish for....along with low gas prices!!

Major site updates, Price Entry Integration to the Master Station List
We have recently launched a set of new features aimed at improving address formats, reducing duplicates, improving mapping results, and more by tying Master Station Entries to price postings. Please note that for the foreseeable future, choosing a station from the MSL is optional. We have also changed the Master Station tool to remove verifications, and also allow members to see a history of changes for each station. We have also fixed a few other bugs around the website as part of this update.

A long-time deficiency has been improved with the addition of a new stand-alone site for Sacramento. All those Sacto locals can now visit and use SactoGasPrices.com to access their local info rather than using CaliforniaGasPrices.com. Nice to have that going!

Coming soon updates
With the fairly major update moved out yesterday we have been hard at work on the next update. It will be the first large step toward incorporating the Master Station List solidly into the function of the website. We have received many many requests to get the MSL into the website functionality and we think that we have come up with a fairly good solution to ease our way into the MSL. If the MSL was 100% complete, we likely could jump right in, but in its current state we need to start off with a hybrid approach. The result will be fewer duplicates, more standardization, and better station mapping. Stay tuned!

On the main page of your local site (ex TwincitiesGasPrices.com) you will find a new box called My Activity (you will see this if you are signed in) this shows at one glance all your important stats on the web site. When you are not signed in you will see 2 sections in this area. One that has a link for you to become a member and the other shows a local snapshot of the average prices and the trend that they are taking.

New Updates to the Website
GasBuddy has released some new features to the website that we are very pleased with. The major feature being the new private message system that will allow members to talk with other members on their buddy list. They can also send messages to the GB Moderator if they have any questions about the site. You can access this new private message system by clicking the on the ‘inbox’ at the very top of your page.
We have also changed the recent news feature to work a bit differently. When you click on the recent news links it will take you to a page on GasBuddy where you can read a snipit of the article and you can also comment and discuss the article with other members of GasBuddy. There is also a link to the full article for those who are interested.

Few Website updates
Not sure if anyone noticed but we made a few nice improvements to the sites today. We added "registration" links from the GasBuddy.com site to help people get registered on their local sites. We also made a fairly major change to the Temperature maps where the "Legend" stays the same regardless of zoom level so that you truly can see more detail by zooming in. Before as you zoomed in the colors were changing, which was somewhat confusing. There are a few other changes as well. We are working a few new features, some of which will likely come out next week. Gas Price Temperature Maps
We have enhanced the temperature maps to include higher zoom levels as well as ZIP level viewing. We have added more cities and interstates and have added a feature that allows you to get the average prices for counties and ZIPS. To do this, try right-clicking on an area of the map. It should populate a value for that county.

New Car Icons!
We have launched some new car icons to recognize the contributions of senior members. Points previously maxed out at 1 million and have now been extended to 3.25 million with the addition of 11 new car icons. We modified the levels between 100,000 and 500,000. We changed the blue car to be between 100,000 and 199,999. We changed the purple car to be between 200,000 and 349,999 and added a aqua colored car between 350,000 and 499,999. In addition to these changes, we've added a feature that displays speed lines for each icon if the member has been active for 90 consecutive days.

New Master Station List
We have finally started on the complicated project of building a list of all gas stations in the US and Canada. This has been something that we have been developing/thinking about for a number of years now. With this list complete we will be able to take the websites to an entire new level in terms of providing valuable gas price data to consumers. Our goal is provide a more exact station location, provide station mapping and other useful new features. It will be a monumental project to attempt to complete however with your help we will hopefully end up with an accurate and reliable list of stations. Hurricane Katrina
Our hopes and prayers are with everyone along the Gulf Coast. The natural disaster that has struck moves the hearts of all American people. Although gas prices have been impacted by this horrible tragedy, the affects of the storm on the hundreds of thousands of people and the loss of life amounts to so much more. JT and I have tried to help out and have made donations to the relief efforts. Sorry for the long duration between updates, however we have been extremely busy working to keep GasBuddy growing and improving. New Contest Begins
Despite still not having determined a final fourth winner for the last prize of one of four free gasoline cards we have decided to stay on track and begin the next contest. The graphical trend indicator identifies the price trend based on the most recent 12 hours of price entries. Clicking On Sponsor's Ads
Effective immediately, due to regulations with new advertisers we have been forced to discontinue awarding points for clicking on a sponsor's ad. The site remains dependent on sponsor's advertising as our sole source of revenue and we would appreciate our site visitors continued support of our sponsor's advertising. In liu of the points lost from this feature we have increased the points earned for clicking a news item up to 25 from 20.

Tell-A-Friend
Effective immediately, we are forced to limit the number of points earned for using the Tell-A-Friend feature of the web site. A number of site members have been sending messages to invalid email accounts and we are receiving a substantial amount of non-deliverable messages. We will continue to provide members with points for sending Tell-A-Friend messages but points will only be awarded on the member's first 15 friends referred. If more than 15 messages are sent no points will be awarded but the site feature will continue to function normally, helping to spread the word about GasBuddy.com.
